Spoken Word: Creative Release

Wednesday, April 25
6PM-9PM
Buddies in Bad Times Theatre
Facilitated by Michaela Washburn

Coming from the approach of accessing personal truths, Michaela seeks to guide participants through exercises to help them explore spoken word as a form of creative release and expression.

Michaela Washburn hails from Alberta and is a proud Métis artist of English, Irish, French and Cree descent. Now based in Toronto, her expertise spans theatre, film, hosting, writing, spoken word, clown, improvisation, workshop facilitation and stand-up.

A four time Dora nominated artist, Michaela was also nominated for the K. M. Hunter Artist Award for Theatre. She has performed internationally at festivals and theatres in Wales, Aruba and across Canada and the United States. Selections of Michaela’s poetry and prose have been published in a college anthology in California, and more recently in an anthology of work by queer artists entitled Queering the Way.

Her first play, Water Under the Bridge, which she co-wrote with Carrie Costello, toured with Carousel Players, followed by a week of performances that opened the 2013/2014 season for the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company. Upcoming in 2018, Washburn returns to the Soulpepper stage in their production of Animal Farm. She is also delighted to be collaborating with the Juno Award winning duo Quantum Tangle on their new album New Chapter.
